bio

I refuse to write this in the third person, because it's pretty obvious that I am the author of this pathetic paragraph:
I've been interested in music since childhood, learning songs by ear on the piano. I picked up the trumpet in the fourth grade because my mother plays, and recommended I do the same. Since high school, I've taken music very seriously, studying privately and listening to jazz and classical music constantly, while trying to block out anything popular on the radio out of sheer hatred. Once enrolled in William Paterson's jazz program, I gravitated toward the avant guarde. Fellow students like Ryan Clackner and Tyshawn Sorey made it easy to enoy this complicated music. In 2002 I started playing gigs and making money doing what I love. Since graduating, I've lived in Brooklyn, which greatly facilitates playing music with highly skilled musicians. I feel very fortunate to have had the oportunity to play with Travis Sullivan, Seth Misterka, Tyshawn Sorey, Mike Pinto, Christopher Tordini, Mirek Puscny, Tommy Craine, Devin Grey, Robin Veheren, Nathan Peck, and Lionel Loueke, and many others. I've also been lucky enough to perform at the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Jazz School (Berkelee, CA), the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, the Jazz Standard, Zebulon (NY and CA), Alwan for the Arts, Bowery Poetry Club, Greenwich Village Bistro, CBGB's Gallery, Barbes, and Cachaca.
